Trade Mission to China – The Adventure Begins

By Donna Evans, President and CEO of the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce

I’m on my way to China!

It will be my first visit to Asia where I and 23 other Chamber CEO’s, along with 18 guests, will participate in a trade mission hosted by the American Association of Chamber Executives and Citslinc Travel. The goal of the trip is to encourage more American businesses to do business in China. But, luckily, it won’t be just all about business, we will see most of China’s tourist attractions as well.

The adventure begins today when I board a plane from NYC and fly 14 hours to Bejing, a 12 hour time difference from Denver. Monday morning starts at 7:30 with a two hour business meeting followed by visits to Tiananmen Square, the largest square in the world; the Palace Museum, also known as the Forbidden City, home of 24 emperors with a total space of 9,999 rooms; a Hutong tour by rickshaw to see old Beijing and then lunch at a local family’s house.

Next we visit the Summer Palace, known for the Long Corridor with a painted gallery; Kunming Lake and Longevity Hill; Seventeen-Arch Bridge and Marble Boat. We finish our sightseeing with a visit to a Pearl Factory where we will have the opportunity to contribute to the local economy. Our last event of this very eventful day is a roasted Beijing duck dinner.

Whew! I don’t think that we will have trouble sleeping on this trip.

Now that you have an overview of our first day, I will give you updates along the way. Stay tuned for more of the adventure….
